Following the initial prayers, community members gather to listen to the Wasila (sermon/intercession) delivered by the Syedna (or his local representatives). The Syedna guides the congregation through the historical and esoteric significance of the night, moving the faithful to tears by recounting the sacrifices of Prophet Muhammad, Maulatona Fatema, Imam Ali, and Imam Husain.
